Hydrotropism

Image
Hydrotropism Regulates the growth of the plant in relation to a water source. This protects them from various drought conditions and excessive degree of water exposure.

Gravitropism

Image
Gravitropism The plants response to gravity. The reason why plants roots grow in the opposite direction of the stem. If you lay a plant on its side, it will grow in an upward direction against gravity. (Negative gravitropism)

Thigmotropism

Image
Thigmotropism When plants are in contact with a touch stimulus or a physical object, they tend to respond to such a stimulus by growing on/within these objects. When a plant is touched, it singles to the non-touched side to " curl ". The side touched shows slower growth rates , whilst the other non-touched side has increased rates .

Phototropism

Image
Phototropism Phototropism controls the growth of the plant in response to a light source. Positive phototropism is when a plant grows towards a light source. Negative phototropism is when a plant grows away from a light source. When hormones called auxins  gather on the shaded side of a plant, it results in the elongation of the cells in that area faster than the cells on the other side of the plant. This is what causes the stem to move towards a light source.
